Home and Away:
Images of near and far become
Story – Home & Away is a pictorial journey that marries distant vistas with local places, and vibrant textures with rugged spaces. It’s a melding of a simple subject, with beautiful light, influenced by my mid-western roots and authored by the winding roads of an adventurous spirit.
Scope - Home & Away consists of 40 photographic duets that are arranged to dance together, while being uniquely different. Parings may have a married feel, but each photo has been taken on different days and in different places. Using only natural light, photos have been developed to install emotion, but not altered or fabricated by Photoshop in any way. Using subjects that seem to be an unlikely pair, similarities can be viewed within themes, composition, textures, and color.
Media – Digital Inkjet Photography printed on Semi-Gloss Artisanal Canvas by the Epson GS55000. Canvas is then individually hand stretched onto 1 ½” Poplar Stretcher frames for durability and longevity. Photographs are numbered by print and signed by the artist.
Equipment - Canon 50d, Canon 7d, Canon 5d Mrk II & Mrk III. Although Julian prefers hand shooting without flash or a tripod, he will use natural features like rocks, tree branches or his backpack to provide the stable platform in which to capture his subjects.
